The Atlantic magazine is known for its printed essays. But, it also does videos, some of which are quite amazing. In particular, check out this enormously powerful piece narrated by the writer Ta-Nehisi Coates and animated by Tynesha Foreman.
Coates’ thesis, and it is hard to argue with him, is that Trump is the first president to run on a platform of whiteness. His appeal was to white voters, including those in the middle classes (not just his “white working class base”) who felt threatened by Obama and “the rising tide of color.”
As animation, and an example of spoken word art, this piece is stunning. As an indictment of White America, it is all too believable.
