So here’s a note to all you minor league baseball (and other) teams out there. Don’t piss off Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez ‘s fans. They’ll hang you out to dry.
Here’s the tale: According to Vice, “the Fresno Grizzlies, the minor-league affiliate of the Washington Nationals…broadcast a video that attacked AOC at its stadium on Memorial Day. The video featured a speech by Ronald Reagan — and when Reagan mentioned ‘enemies of freedom,’ the montage featured images of the North Korean dictator Kim, former Cuban President Fidel Castro, black-flag anarchists, and Ocasio-Cortez.”
And almost immediately, AOC’s friends and fans hit the roof, launching all sorts of protests and emails. But, the Grizzlies could have dealt with that. What hurt was that their corporate sponsors began leaving them. Heineken beer and Sun-Maid juice have dropped the team like it was plutonium.
The team has publicly apologized for the incident and claimed that the video was selected by “a single employee” who took it from Youtube and didn’t realize how hateful it was.
Maybe, but as of press time the sponsors aren’t heading back to the Grizzlies pen.
