This Small Activist Makes a Big Difference
Virtual News2 with host and commentator, Marc Keyser
“My name is Greta Thunberg. I am 15 years old. I am from Sweden. I speak on behalf of Climate Justice Now. Many people say that Sweden is just a small country and it doesn’t matter what we do. But I’ve learned you are never too small to make a difference. And if a few children can get headlines all over the world just by not going to school, then imagine what we could all do together if we really wanted to.

But to do that, we have to speak clearly, no matter how uncomfortable that may be. You only speak of green eternal economic growth because you are too scared of being unpopular. You only talk about moving forward with the same bad ideas that got us into this mess, even when the only sensible thing to do is pull the emergency brake. You are not mature enough to tell it like is. Even that burden you leave to us children. But I don’t care about being popular. I care about climate justice and the living planet. Our civilization is being sacrificed for the opportunity of a very small number of people to continue making enormous amounts of money. Our biosphere is being sacrificed so that rich people in countries like mine can live in luxury. It is the sufferings of the many which pay for the luxuries of the few.
The year 2078, I will celebrate my 75th birthday. If I have children maybe they will spend that day with me. Maybe they will ask me about you. Maybe they will ask why you didn’t do anything while there still was time to act. You say you love your children above all else, and yet you are stealing their future in front of their very eyes.
Until you start focusing on what needs to be done rather than what is politically possible, there is no hope. We can’t solve a crisis without treating it as a crisis. We need to keep the fossil fuels in the ground, and we need to focus on equity. And if solutions within the system are so impossible to find, maybe we should change the system itself. We have not come here to beg world leaders to care. You have ignored us in the past and you will ignore us again. We have run out of excuses and we are running out of time. We have come here to let you know that change is coming, whether you like it or not. The real power belongs to the people. Thank you”.
Letter to Greta Thunberg:
I was deeply moved hearing you speak. Your commitment to Climate Justice is inspiring. Fifteen years old, and you have written the Gettysburg Address for our struggle to save the planet.
But there is a new and better way for people to protest by phone because everyone has one.
Protesting by phone makes a big difference. We call together to shut down Bank of America Merrill Lynch until Congress impeaches President Trump, and commitments to Saving the Planet from Global warming, rising sea levels, and weather extremes that are devastating earth.
In America, we call Bank of America, and in Sweden you call their stock brokers Merrill Lynch. We target Bank of America Merrill Lynch because that’s where the money is. They’re one of the five big banks on Wall Street financing the big oil and coal industries that are doing the polluting and bribing elected officials and spreading lies about Global Warming.
It’s easy when people in America, Sweden, and cities around the globe get comfy on their phones and start calling like crazy. A small act of resistance makes a big difference when thousands, millions of people around the globe protest by phone.
On your end, you organize people to make lots and lots and lots of phone calls to Merrill Lynch in Sweden. On our end we call Bank of America. We tie up their phones, disrupt business as usual around the globe.
We can force Republicans in the Senate to impeach President Trump and Save the Planet, because they can’t afford to lose Bank of America and face a financial crisis on Wall Street.
To save the planet, we need to impeach President Trump. He is a very bad man doing very, very bad things.
You start a People’s Phone Protest in Sweden. Demonstrate out in front of the Merrill Lynch office in Stockholm, and call them day and night so you make the news and the protest goes viral. With your 190K followers on Twitter, it’s child’s play really.

Use social media to activate people to call and tie up the phones and shutdown Merrill Lynch in Sweden with calls of concern.
That’s how to talk to rich people so they have to listen. We flood Bank of America Merrill Lynch with calls. We take away their phone privileges and cost them money, a great deal of money until they do the right thing.
Greta, you are just one small person, but you have 190K followers on Twitter. So if you tell everyone on social media to call Merrill Lynch in Sweden, lots and lots and lots of people are going to call and retweet the message so lots more will call.
The rich and the powerful, the high and the mighty like President Donald Trump, have ignored the people in the past, but they cannot afford to ignore us this time. The rich who rule have run out of excuses, and we are running out of time.
We call Bank of America, and you call Merrill Lynch to put business on hold to make Republicans in the Senate impeach Donald Trump… whether they like it or not and support the Green New Deal. Give the rich who are in power a financial crisis to convince them to do the right thing and save the planet.
You see Greta, when protesters call Bank of America and Merrill Lynch it disrupts business and people with money in the bank get nervous and want their money back to be safe. It’s called “a run on the bank”. People with stock in Bank of America will panic and start selling, which will “crash” the bank’s stock. Bank of America could go bankrupt; and Republicans in Congress don’t want that. No, they do not.
In Sweden, you can start your own People’s Phone Protest and call Nordea Bank AB to stop them from financing these gigantic polluting industries that are destroying our planet.
Yes Greta, young people like you can use social media to activate thousands, millions of people to call and Save the Planet. Call in solidarity and tell the big banks, “We have come here to let you know that change is coming, whether you like it or not. The real power belongs to the people.”
