Media outlets are reporting that John Bolton has been fired from his role as National Security Advisor. He will be the third National Security Advisor to have come and gone since Trump took office. As with the other firings, the differences between the two men seem to have been as much personal as political. While Bolton has said the parting was largely amicable, Trump has tweeted that he fired Bolton outright.
What effect, if any, Bolton’s departure will have on the Trump administration and its foreign policy remains to be seen. Still, Bolton has been known as a hardliner and a hawk. It would nice if his replacement was less confrontational and less likely to alienate America’s friends around the world. Unfortunately, we won’t know that until Trump names yet another National Security Advisor.
